Cycling in Monmouthshire

Monmouthshire contains hundreds of quiet lanes most of which offer spectacular views of the stretching Welsh countryside.

If you'd like to get away from the roads altogether it is possible to ride on parts of the Monmouth and Brecon canal towpath (this does require a free permit). An alternative is to use the Sustrans cycle path that runs north and west from Llanfoist through Govilon and up to Brynmawr. If you fancy a more challenging ride it is possible to link four of the castles in the area (White Castle, Skenfrith, Grosmont and Abergavenny).

Chepstow

Quiet country lanes a plenty, and routes include NCN Route 42 from Chepstow to Abergavenny and the cycle path along the old Severn Bridge. The Celtic Trail links Chepstow to Fishguard and is some 220 miles in length.
