Description

Caban Cwm Hedd is a pet-friendly holiday lodge set on a working farm. The lodge has glorious, breathtaking views across a lake that is teaming with wildlife including Kingfishers , dragonflies and many other insects and birds. With excellent public transport links nearby including mainline train to London and easy access to the M4 network for Cardiff, Swansea, Bristol and Bath.  Heading North you have Monmouthshire, Abergavenny and the Brecon Beacons National Park to enjoy. Caerphilly Castle (famous for its leaning tower) is one of the most spectacular and largest in Western Europe and is only a short drive away. Within the past few years this region has held many prestigious events including a NATO summit, Ryder Cup and The UEFA Champions League final. 

 

Ground floor

Lounge and dining area, with bi-fold doors opening out on to patio area. TV, DVD and a selection of books and games. Wood burner (first basket of logs provided)

Fully equipped kitchen with full sized fridge and freezer, dishwasher, electric oven and gas hob, microwave, toaster and kettle.  Table and chairs for 5.  

Bedroom 1 - Twin bedroom with two single beds and a chest of draws.

Bedroom 2  - Double bed, wardrobe and lake views. Leads on into bedroom 3.

Bedroom 3 - Single bedroom with lake views accessed via bedroom 2. 

Master Bathroom with walk-in shower, wc and basin.

 

Outside

Large patio area overlooking the lake, Picnic bench and rattan furniture (sofa and chairs), Garden area is enclosed by wooden fence.

Accessible information

Accommodation is all on the ground floor

All doors are 2’9” into all rooms

Parking area to the side of the Lodge on a flat parking area. This area provides for a spacious and safe exit from vehicles

There is a lip on the main door, and a small raise between living area and bathroom but all the rest is level.

We had a spectacular visit - the cabin offered all that we needed in a home from home. The dogs were secure and so contented I think they wanted to move in!. The location was perfect and quiet - we can’t wait to book again!

This detached Lodge is on a former fishery and looks out across a 7 acre spring fed lake.  The nearest pub and local shop is just over 1 mile away in the village of Bassaleg. Within the village the Cottage tea rooms is popular for food , while other options include Ruperra Arms, The Sorting Rooms and the Tredegar Arms. The iconic Tiny Rebel Brewery is nearby taste tours are very popular. The City of Newport is just 3.9 miles away with its shopping centres and amenities. Set within 90 acres of gardens and parkland Tredegar House is a spectacular 17th Century country house and it is well worth a visit.  Other local attractions include the Newport Transporter Bridge, Roman Fortress in Caerleon, Gwent levels,  Fourteen Locks Canal Centre and the Newport Wetlands Reserve. 

The City of Cardiff is only 9 miles away and is a great city to visit. It holds many sporting events and converts and has a wide range of attractions including Cardiff Castle, Principality Stadium, Millennium Centre and the Cardiff International White Water Centre. The Principality stadium in Cardiff has recently hosted the Champions league final and regularly holds large rugby events such as 6 Nations, European Cup Finals and World cup games. Sophia Gardens is a Test cricket venue as well as being home to the Glamorgan county cricket club.

Some 12 miles to the North is the Brecon Beacons National Park,  covering almost 520 sq miles of lakes, mountains, rivers, waterfalls and countryside. The park was awarded Dark Skies accreditation by the International Dark-Sky Association. This proves the area has exceptional quality of starry nights and nocturnal environment, mainly due to low levels of pollution and unnatural light. The park is popular for walking, fishing, cycling, horse riding, and much more. 

 

Walks

Short walks around the lakes straight from the lodge. Fourteen locks is is a great walk and follows the canal towpath down a steep flight of fourteen canal locks. 3 miles.

Fishing

Peterstone lakes offers great carp fishing, including specimen carp. 5 miles.

Golf

Several courses nearby including the Celtic Manor, Ryder cup course. The closest is The Parc Golf Club.  3 miles.

Cycling

Access to country roads, ideal for road cycling. 0.1 miles.

For mountain biking Bike Park Wales is one of the UK's premier trails. Cwmcarn includes all-weather trails and uplift. 7 miles.

Pony Trekking 

Beau Court Stud and Riding School for riding for all levels and abilities. 5 miles

Water sports 

Llandegfedd Watersports centre offers sailing, windsurfing, SUP and kayaking. 11 miles.
