Description

Enjoy easy access to mountains, castles, endless attractions and sandy beaches. Central to Porthmadog, Caernarfon, Snowdonia and the Llyn Peninsula, this cottage provides a great location for your North Wales self catering holiday. It also offers cosy, pet-friendly accommodation with all its original features, including a huge inglenook fireplace. Believed to be the oldest house in the county of Gwynedd, this sub-medieval hall house dates from circa 1543 and was built on the probable site of a Roman Bath-house.

Ground Floor

The lounge features a huge inglenook fireplace, exposed beams and an antique Welsh dresser. There is also a grandfather clock, piano, large digital TV, DVD and comfortable seating around the welcoming log / coal fire.

The kitchen includes a dishwasher, washing machine, microwave, fridge-freezer, electric cooker and plenty of kitchen units. Oak dining table for 4 guests, post and panel oak partition and an oak beamed ceiling.

A stone spiral staircase with oak steps lead upstairs from the lounge, complete with slit window reminiscent of an arrow hole.

Upstairs

Master Bedroom has an antique French king sized bed, exposed beams and panelled walls.

Second Bedroom has mahogany twin beds, large antique wardrobe and chest of drawers.

Bathroom contains a Victorian bath with Cath Kidston wallpaper.

Garden

An enclosed, enchanting garden with a small stream meandering through it, mature trees and a unique wildlife pond. Make the most of your North Wales self catering holiday by relaxing in this peaceful setting which is also a haven for wildlife such as dragonflies, butterflies, various birds and bluebells.

Wonderfully situated, perfect for trips throughout North Wales. Very cosy and venerable old house. It was a great week and we felt very welcomed by the owner Mari. The little forest behind the garden with the little creek is lovely and especially our kids enjoyed it a lot.

Ty Uchaf cottage provides an excellent, central and tranquil setting for your North Wales self catering holiday. Situated on a farm with one other semi detached holiday cottage for 4, it is located on the western edge of Snowdonia National Park, just 5 miles north of Cricieth and Porthmadog (7.5 miles) and 12 miles south of Caernarfon. It is also equidistant from the beaches on the northern and southern coasts of the Llyn Peninsula.

This 16th century farmhouse was built on a Roman site and is a superb example of a period cottage. The nearest pub and restaurant (Goat) is located just 1 mile away in the village of Bryncir and a curry house is also within 1.5 miles. Other highly recommended restaurants nearby include Y Sgwar in Tremadog (7 miles) and Blas in Caernarfon (12 miles). The nearest grocery shop can be found in Penygroes, just 5 miles away where you can also do some wine tasting at Pant Du Vineyard.

From magnificent mountains to beautiful beaches, coastal paths, narrow gauge railways and castles, you will find them all within 20 minutes of Ty Uchaf. This North Wales self catering holiday cottage is also located 200 yards from Lôn Eifion Cycle Track which follows the old railway line all the way from Bryncir to Caernarfon. Also on the doorstep is Bryncir Woollen Mill which turns Welsh wool from fleece to flannel before your eyes.

For family days out, the list is endless. Dwyfor Rabbit Farm in Llanystumdwy (4.3 miles) has various breeds of rabbits and farm animals such as ponies and lambs. Glasfryn Parc (11 miles) offers go karts, quadbikes, ten-pin bowling and more, making it an ideal all weather venue. Greenwood Forest Park (16 miles) is another great day out in Snowdonia, as is the Electric Mountain in Llanberis. Llechwedd Slate Caverns (19 miles) offers underground rides through the caverns of this working slate mine whilst Anglesey Sea Zoo (Wales' largest marine aquarium) is also well worth a visit.

For a more relaxing North Wales self catering holiday, visit Cricieth for a fine example of a Welsh castle, whilst Caernarfon is home to possibly the most famous of Wales's castles. Enjoy the stunning coastline of the Llyn Peninsula; its beaches, beautiful Welsh seaside villages and possibly a boat trip to Ynys Enlli (Bardsey Island) - one of Wales' Holy Islands. Visit the classic Italian village and gardens of Portmeirion (10 miles) and take a ride on the narrow gauge railway from the sea at Porthmadog into the mountains at Blaenau Ffestiniog.

Beaches

Enjoy your North Wales self catering holiday by visiting a different beach every day. There are several superb beaches nearby, including:

Cricieth has two popular beaches, either side of the Castle. These are a mixture of sand and pebble with a rocky area at the far end of the eastern beach exposing rock pools at low tide. 5 miles

Borth-y-Gest which is nestled on the side of the Glaslyn Estuary, has many sandy coves and small bays within a short walk. 8 miles

Black Rock Sands Beach - one of the most beautiful in Britain. Dogs are allowed on the beach in certain areas and you can take your car on to the beach for a small fee. 9.5 miles

There are also many more beautiful beaches on the Llyn Peninsula and the Caernarfon area (eg. Aberdesach and Dinas Dinlle).

Cycling

Walking

Lon Goed - a beautiful 6 mile avenue of hardwood trees and a paradise for walkers. 3 miles from the cottage

Llyn Coastal Path (part of the All Wales Coast Path) – Many sections within a short distance, with the nearest joining point being Cricieth. 5 miles.

Plenty of mountain walks to choose from in Snowdonia. Snowdon, the highest, is a must and the nearest route starts from Rhyd-ddu (13 miles), or you can catch the train from Llanberis (18 miles) to the summit café.

Fishing

Fish for trout on the river that flows through the farm, 200 yds from the cottage.

Llanystumdwy - 6 acre lake and river fishing on the Dwyfor. 4.3 miles

Or what about a fishing trip around St Tudwal’s Islands, two tiny islands just off Abersoch (17 miles). Alternatively, you can sit back and watch the dolphins, seals and other wildlife in their natural habitat.

Golf

Cricieth Golf Club – 11 unique holes, noted for its stunning views and the peace and tranquillity of its surroundings. 5 miles

Pony trekking

Porthmadog Activity Centre – enjoy miles of unspoiled trekking in stunning scenery. Suitable for children from 4 years to adults. 8 miles

Watersports

Pwllheli Sailing Club, Pwllheli Marina – excellent facilities and possibly the best sailing waters in the U.K. 11 miles

Abersoch beach offers flat water for wakeboarding and waterskiing, sailing, power boating and windsurfing. 17 miles
