Cycling in the Betws y Coed area, Snowdonia
The Betws y Coed area offers numerous cycling venues, including the Gwydir Forest Trails and the Penmachno Trail.
Gwydir Forest is situated 2 miles north of Betws y Coed on the B5106 and here you will find miles of trails to test your mountain biking ability. The forest will suit people of all levels and is one of the main attractions of the area.
Amongst the most challenging is the 18 mile Marin Trail - what they call 'proper' mountain biking, which will take you 2-4 hours to complete. This trail has everything; memorable trek, stunning scenery, challenging climbs and the further you venture along the trail you will be pleasantly surprised and it will definitely be one of the highlights of your mountain biking career.
Make sure you take plenty of food and drink with you as there are no facilities along the way.
The Penmachno Trail takes you along an 18 mile, scenic route amongst mountains and country tracks in North Wales. It will take you around 2-3 hours to complete and the trail has been marked a red grade making it more suitable for the experienced cyclists. Even though the trail is mostly forest roads there are some sections that are singletrack bridge and river crossings. The scenery is beautiful and the challenging track will make for memorable cycling.
