Holiday makes traveling to Wales this summer for a Cottage Holiday have been boosted by the latest weather news. This week forcasters have predicted that Wales will enjoy an ‘ice cream’ summer. Weather boffins say a persistent band of high pressure over the UK will mean long dry periods and some scorching temperatures from now, right through until the start of September. Best of Wales still has some school summer holiday availability in its Holiday Cottages in Wales.
The consensus is backed up by farmers who could need more moisture for their cereal crops which are beginning to show. Gareth Vaughan, who farms in Dolfor, near Newtown, and is President of the Farming Union of Wales, said: “We have lots of older people who pay attention to when the trees come out to leaf. “The saying goes: ‘If the oak is before the ash we are in for a splash – a hot summer – but if the ash is before the oak, we are in for a soak.’ And this year the oak was considerably before the ash” And television personality and weatherman Derek Brockway has backed up these claims by saying that by the law of averages, after three wet summers, Wales should be in for a scorcher.
